BARKTEX®_Patchwork_tradition_0188

Here are BARK CLOTH® pieces from several trees sewn together exclusively by hand in a traditional technique, which is extremely elaborate, to form a complete work of art using sisal and/or bast thread. Apart from the sisal/bast thread, this BARKTEX® is pure tree bark and contains no additives at all (monomaterial). Chemically, tree bark is cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and traces of ash/minerals and tannins.

The motif appears harmonious tone-in-tone, with no rapport => each piece is a unique specimen. Depending on personal preference and temperament of our experienced designers, the motives are sometimes playful and possibly more “African,” but sometimes more geometric, influenced by Doesberg, Mondrian or Kandinsky. The size is standardized to 1.3 x 2.5 m. The most common applications are in the interior design and furniture manufacturing. IF Design Award in 2005 and nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2007. Meanwhile, a classic.

Custom-made manufacturing is possible up to the sensational size of > 5 000 x 25 000 cm - without joints and withour recurring motifs. For instance, all walls of one room can be covered with one single piece of wallcovering, with no pattern repeat at all. You have to come up with this idea, first! Be it a textile, be it a wood-based material: which other material can be produced in these formats, liberated from constricting pattern repeats?
